Government Official Confirms Ministry of Defence Investigating Security Risk from Chinese Cars, with Staff Instructed to Refrain from Secret Talk in Vehicles.

An defence official has stated that the Ministry of Defence is currently investigating the possible security risks associated with Chinese vehicles, and staff have been instructed to refrain from discussing secret information in any cars.

Security Advice for MoD Personnel

In a recent appearance on a radio station, a defence minister commented on claims that MoD staff have been told not to talk about secret information while travelling in China-made cars.

He said that the MoD is “investigating” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, but emphasised that security is a issue in all modern vehicles.

Our department has a collection of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones account for a very small number.
But regardless of if you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our staff is not to plug Ministry of Defence devices into their vehicle, to avoid having discussions at a classified classification in any kind of car, due to the growing threats of eavesdropping that exist in all automobile, to restrict those confidential conversations in secure locations. That’s a wise and sensible thing for anyone concerned about safety.

When it was suggested that it would be prudent for the ministry to stop using all Chinese vehicles, the minister replied: That is exactly what we are looking into at the present time.”

Broader Defence Context

This announcement follows reports from Scandinavian countries have alerted the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese electric buses, which could allow the Chinese government to disable public transport and cause disruption to public transit.

Additionally, a Russian intelligence vessel was reportedly shining laser beams at Royal Air Force pilots, labeled a “extremely risky” act by defence officials.

This wider security environment highlights the significance of robust protocols and vigilance in every aspects of official operations, including vehicle usage to communication habits.
