Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of characters who will split off from the main group to undertake their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might seem mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could assist the team enter places they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.

This results in them no alternative but to head to Timmony in search of Casimir.

Future Episodes

According to episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Explorers and Schemers tables.

Viewers can anticipate discovering which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
